AFTERSCHOOL SPANISH PROGRAM: SPANISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE
The Afterschool Spanish Program provides an environment for children that enhances language learning through full immersion. Our curriculum is created for an academic school year, and is also adaptable for students enrolling throughout the year; this means that while the subject matter is cumulative in nature, children are placed within their accurate level of skill at time of enrollment, regardless of the time of year. Our program and lesson plans are created and prepared with materials from a wide variety of textbooks and media, and curriculum is closely monitored in order to ensure that it supports the needs of each individual student.
We believe that an integral part of language acquisition includes an approach that presents topics that are of interest to children, giving them greater stimulus to learn. The study of culture and traditions of Spanish-speaking countries offers students opportunities to use their creativity to support the learning process. This year, our curriculum includes the study of nature, animals, science, as well as Mexican culture and traditions, taught completely in Spanish, and further enhanced by a variety of hands-on projects that are both fun and educational.
